AUGUST 21 - Meditation: Joshua 1:5-9

DAY 21 - J15A

By: Darrelyn L. Tutt
Today's Meditation: Joshua 1:5-9

"There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee; I will not fail thee nor forsake thee. Be strong and of good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses My servant commanded thee; turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."
Joshua 1:5-9

Ladder Rung: J15A
J and A are the first and last letters of Joshua.
Selection of words to aid in memory:
Jolt of Adrenaline.
Joshua is given a spiritual boost, a healthy dose of spiritual adrenaline from the Lord, as he steps into the shoes of  "Moses" and leads God's people into the Promised Land.
1:5 is our reference.
At 1:00 PM and at 5:00 PM we will rehearse and meditate on our passage.
------
To step into the shoes of a great leader (Moses) and be delegated the task of governing a great host of people was the charge placed upon Joshua.
Designated by God as Israel's military commander in the conquest of the Promised Land, he would also be responsible for the dispersement of land to the tribes.
Everything Joshua needed to lead and succeed in the leadership arena had been appointed him:
-He had been mentored for a long period of time by Moses.
-He had observed, firsthand, the relationship that existed between God and Moses.
-He had witnessed God's power and His ability to perform all of His promises to His people.
-He had been given God's word and His law.
-He had been given God's presence.
------
There is nothing more difinitive or sustaining for a man than God's presence as his primary accompaniment.
When one has this ... one has everything.
There's no journey that can't be made when God's presence is with a man:
There's no mountain that can't be climbed,
No sea that can't divide,
No lion whose mouth can't be closed,
No Pharoah whose will can't be thwarted,
No Satan, no god, no power can stop, block, or bypass the sovereign will of God on an individual's life.
-----
-When faced with great responsibility, Joshua is simply reminded, as we are, of God's great and unfathomable ability.
-When faced with a "seeming" insurmountable task, it is God who supplies us with more than we could ask ... or imagine.
-When experiencing a sense of "aloneness" it is God's presence that beats within our souls and reminds us of His closeness.
And the One who orders stars and planets, manages seas and galaxies, fashions man and beast from dust ...
Hears us,
Walks with us,
Talks to us,
Helps us,
And enables us.
Is it not an overwhelming mystery,
this certain love He has for you and me?
-----
Today, He whispers,
As I was with Moses, and as I was with Joshua ... so I am with "you."
"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then Thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."
Joshua 1:8

Meditation offers us a "jolt of spiritual adrenaline," and a "boost of grace" on this journey called life.
When we partake of God's word,
Bask in it,
Meditate on it,
And steep ourselves in it ...
We are changed by it.
Experience more of Christ and allow your soul and mind to be captivated by Him.
Secure your Promise Land ...
Meditate on Him.
------
Great God and Glorious Sustainer,
For works preordained and strength to sustain ... all praise is due Thee.
For acceptance to do Thy will, whatever it looks like and wherever it leads, we ask Thee for wisdom.
For humility in task of undertaking,
For grace afforded in weakness,
For wisdom granted in unknowing,
For communion in aloneness,
For Thy word as our sure and true Light,
We make request of these necessities.
Let the God of Joshua grant us courage in our cowardice to move into our Promised Land with hope, truth, and vitality of spirit.
To Thy great and holy name,
And for Thy sake.
Amen.
