DECEMBER 19: THE EARLY DAYS

THE EARLY DAYS
By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

"And the Lord appeared unto Abram and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land; and there builded he an altar unto the Lord who appeared unto him. And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord."
Genesis 12:7-8

Today's Read: Genesis 12-15
Abraham is only "Abram" here, which speaks to the early days of relationship when God had just begun to speak to him.
Leaving a land that He loved, a people he loved, a culture he understood, and all the familiar comforts that one derives from the place called home;
Abram walked away from it ... because God told him to.
-Shifting his allegiance entirely to God, he settled his eyes on a land he couldn't see.
-Shifting his allegiance entirely to God, he tuned in his ears to a voice that others couldn't hear.
-Shifting his allegiance entirely to God, altars were built in stages by a man who craved nearness with the Eternal One.
And the Eternal One loved him.
Even when Abram couldn't see the fulfillment of promises that had been given him,
Even when he didn't understand the voice that spoke to him,
Even when he got tired and felt a weight of weariness attending him,
Abram kept walking with God.
Abram believed God.
Abram loved God.

Shift your allegiance entirely to God and do what He asks of you:
Settle your eyes on a land you cannot see,
Tune in your ears to a voice that others cannot hear,
Build an "altar" in each place God appears to you ...
And just keep walking.
God will take care of the "name change" in His time and in His way.
Believe Him,
Walk with Him,
Love the Eternal One,
And listen to the voice of the One who will get you home.
From Abram to Abraham ...
God will change you.

Three Study Suggestions:
1) Before you read today, pray and ask God to grant you a personal discovery from His ancient and timeless word ... and then record it.
2) Reflect on your spiritual journey.
Draw a map of places God has led you, promises He has given you, provisions He has procured you with, and protection He has provided you.
Carefully consider all that is in keeping with His plan for your life;
Keep shifting your allegiance away from man and onto God.
3) Record the place on your map of where you currently find yourself.
If you are there because of obedience ... God be praised.
Keep on moving.
If you are there because of disobedience, God be praised that He is calling you back into relationship with Himself.
Repentance is your first step in the right direction.
Rejoice ... and keep walking.
"There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in His excellency on the sky. The Eternal God is Thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; and He shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them."
Deuteronomy 33:26-27
