MAY 3 - Proverbs 3 and Luke 12:24-32
By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6
and
Ravens and Lilies
"Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowl? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will He clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom."
Luke 12:24-32
-----
Trust and independence are at odds with one another;
You can't have one while holding on to the other.
We are urged to give up on our inconsistent, ever-resistant selves and look to God as the chief source of our provision, protection, and power. We are urged to steer away from the belief that we are the resource to our greatest need.
With a simple gesture toward the black predatorial raven, He reminds us of His absolute protection and provision over all of His creation.
Pointing toward the field, He directs our gaze to the tender lily, and reminds us of His care and creative approach in adorning and clothing each flower with its color and hue.
And pointing at you, He whispers,
Surely you can see that I care emphatically more for ... you.
Surely you remember that the blueprint of your body, soul, and mind is housed in Me.
Surely you are aware that you are loved, valued, and offered every source of provision and protection through Me ... and through My Son.
Take Me up on on my offer and trust Me.
I am your Father and I can be trusted.
Today, Lord, we acknowledge that our attempts at taking care of ourselves are not enough. Forgive us for self-dependence, self-reliance, and selfishness.
Forgiven us for pride, arrogance, and satisfaction with our poorly constructed attempts at being our number one resource.
Throughout this day keep the raven and the lily on the forefront of our minds as illustrations of Your power, provision, and protection. Cause there to be a quick rehearsal and remembrance of Your desire to attend to our simplest and most profound needs. Cause us to be grateful that You have promised to be the supplier of all of our needs at all times.
For protection and provision from You,
We give you praise.
You are enough.
Amen.

THREE QUESTIONS:
1) What arena in my life do I find most difficult to trust God with?
2) Where have I observed undeniable provision from God?
3) How can I be used to solidify someone's trust in God today?
