THE NUTCRACKER

THE NUTCRACKER
By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

It's not my intention to enter a 1/2 marathon but I'm now prepared too.
My body has been tempered, trained, and disciplined in a daily workout regime the past weeks to achieve a goal which I very much wanted realized.
I've accomplished the goal,
I've achieved what I set out to achieve.
Physically I feel excellent, but it's a fleeting sort of excellent, and my soul knows this.
Paul sums up the physical body excellently:
"But bodily exercise profiteth little; but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come."
1 Timothy 4:8

-------
Many years ago, in a very different arena of life, I was compelled by the Holy Spirit to absorb God's word in great quantities. Developing a 90 Bible reading plan, I applied this steady discipline and diligence to my time with the Lord in a daily manner and I consumed it.
As I steeped in God's word it got into me,
Deeply into me:
-His word soaked in me,
-Saturated me,
-And ultimately saved my life.
The "Word" investment has proven to be the wisest investment I've ever made in my life, and what began as a gentle prompt within, many years ago, has translated into a walk with Christ today that I wouldn't trade for all the world.
-Where I am today speaks to the glory, strength, and power of God and His word.
-Where I am today speaks to the magnificent display of God's power and rule over darkness and His immutable, unchangeable character.
-Where I am today and who I am today is because of who God has always been and who God will always be.
That's God's story at work in me and I'm sharing it.
------
As I continue to make discoveries about the empowering effects of God's word in my life, so do I desire to emphatically urge others to make an investment in something more lasting than a 1/2 marathon.
Consider a worthy investment in God's word and have a plan that gets you next to Him.
Three discoveries I'm making on my journey:
1) Man's word changes continually in a fluctuation that displays itself like an erratic heartbeat. It's up and down and all around and you can depend on this forever. If this is the "beat" you're listening to, your life will bear it out. You will be unstable, uncertain, and insecure. You must decide if you want to hang your hat on his hook.
God's word, on the other hand, is solid, stable, and stationary;
It's not going anywhere even when you feel like life is pulling you everywhere.
Open up your Bible a moment and tell me if the word spoken a year ago is the same word still being spoken.
Hmmm ...
There's something so comforting about this reality.
"For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word by which the Gospel is preached unto you."
1 Peter 1:24-25
2) None of us know what this day, this week, and this month might bring;
We don't even have control of this hour.
We may be faced with a death, health issue, financial issue, relational crisis, or an unforeseen catastrophic "happening" that completely changes our life and the lives of those around us.
When this moment comes, and it surely will, the fortification of God's word within will wield an empowerment that nothing else comes close to.
A security, stability, and envelopment of God's word will encompass the heart and mind that has invested in it, and it will spring to life and give life according to His word ... according to His promise.
Storing up God's word is like swallowing a whole walnut.
The goal isn't to understand it all (consider how little the disciples understood in certain moments) but to get it inside of you so that God can open it up for you when He decides.
When the season of trial or crisis comes, the nut will get split in half and the meat will finally be tasted ... and the word will come alive in an empowering and mysterious way.
This is the most precious and priceless "happening" presently occuring in my personal life.  I'm tasting the sweetness and richness of the Lord in ways I never have before.
Mmmm ...
I'm so glad I didn't ignore the Spirit's promptings many years back.
"The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him and He delivereth them. O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him."
Psalm 34:7-8
3) God's word is going to prevail through time and eternity.
Whatever you put into "you" is going to rebound back to you, and to others.
This is the promise and provision of the Father who has mastery over all.
"So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth; it shall not return unto Me void but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto I sent it. For ye shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the fields shall clap their hands."
Isaiah 55:11-12
------
Make a wise and eternal investment in God's word.
Swallow the nut,
God will crack the nut,
And you'll taste the meat of the nut.
God's goodness in God's way.
