• A THOUSAND REGRETS

    A THOUSAND REGRETS
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

    Written in the inside cover of my Bible are a few notable and inspirational quotes and Scriptures. Here is one of them:
    “I am not what I ought to be,
    I am not what I want to be,
    I am not what I hope to be;
    But still, I am not what I used to be.
    By the grace of God I am what I am.”

    -John Newton

    This powerful quote was penned by a former slave trader who participated in more atrocious acts as a slave captain aboard notorious slave ships than could be recorded. John Newton lived a life of a thousand regrets and yet lived to write the most beloved hymn ever written:
    “Amazing Grace.”
    One of the interesting realities of John Newton’s life, that few people recognize, is that his conversion did not mark the turning-point in his slavery mentality; rather it was a near-death experience related to physical issues that prompted the timing and change of his heart, long after his conversion.
    This reality is significant to me.
    It’s easy to assume and suppose that when an individual comes to a knowledge of Jesus Christ there is an instant and dramatic conversion in every area of one’s life.
    Sometimes this happens.
    But sometimes it doesn’t.
    Sometimes God works in very mysterious, slow ways in an individual’s heart and the process looks unbecoming and even questionable at times.
    No matter.

    God keeps applying the compress of grace on the swollen results of sin;
    and individuals who have need of it.
    He loves us through the ugly and unbecoming stages of conformity
     and somewhere in it all …
    The slave becomes free;
    The free becomes changed,
    And we hear the strain of song;
    Amazing Grace.

    “But by the grace of God I am what I am;
    And His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain.”

  • GRACE WITHIN GRASP

    GRACE WITHIN GRASP
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

    Frail,
    Fickle,
    Fallen beings.
    Struggling,
    Stumbling,
    Slipping.
    ~~~
    God Almighty,
    Faithful Father:
    Fearless,
    Faultless,
    Focused.
    ~~~
    Relentlessly
    Reaching,
    Regarding,
    Responding,
    Realizing ...

    Needs of
    Fallen creation.
    ~~~
    Mysterious mercy.
    Gratuitous grace.
    Lavish love,
    Timeless truth.
    Extending.
    Descending.
    Transcending
    From Holy God …
    To unholy child.
    ~~~
    Bow.
    Bend.
    Weep.
    Extend
    Your arms ….
    And touch the Father.
    ~~~
    Grace within grasp.
    Riches within reach.
    Wonders too deep
    To comprehend.
    ~~~
    Wonder,
    Marvel,
    Meditate,
    Move …
    To the heart
    Of the
    Heavenly Father.
    His arms are extended to you.
    ~~~
    And He said to me,
    "My grace is sufficient for you,
    for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
    Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities,
    That the power of Christ may rest upon me.
  • PASSAGEWAY
    PASSAGEWAY
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt
    I say farewell to yesterday,
    For yesterday is gone;
    I let her go deliberately,
    And choose to travel on.
    I understand, perhaps in part,
    What many never see;
    That yesterday’s a passageway,
    To where I need to be.
    For I’ve been preordained a path,
    That’s mine alone to trod;
    My lot has been apportioned by …
    The very hand of God.
    The boundaries are drawn for me,
    And all has been secured;
    When trials seem to overwhelm,
    Of this I am assured:
    That all is single-handedly,
    Determined for my good;
    If God has chosen “it” for me;
    I’ll praise Him as I should.
    Eternally advancing,
    In an orchestrated grace;
    Sufficient for arriving,
    At a predetermined place.
    I welcome in this passageway,
    That’s been ordained for me;
    For God, alone, knows what I need,
    For where I am to be.
  • RESOLUTIONS AND REVOLUTIONS
    RESOLUTIONS AND REVOLUTIONS
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt
    Revolution – The action of a celestial body going around in an orbit or elliptic course.
    Example: Earth revolves around sun and gives us one year.
    ~~~
    Resolutions can be like Revolutions.
    Resolutions can orbit around self,
    Like earth orbits around sun.
    The word “I”
    Eclipses
    New Year’s Resolutions.
    ~~~
    Tired of singular pronoun
    "I."
    Tactics changed last year.
    Made others my center.
    Resolutions orbiting,
    Absorbing needs of others.
    Revolutionary.
    Life changing!
    ~~~
    New Year’s Revolution:
    January – Put God first; employ Bible reading plan.
    February – Reach out to your next door neighbor.
    March – Bring a meal to someone.
    April – Volunteer at a shelter or local place of need.
    May – Invite someone new into home.
    June – Pay a bill for someone.
    July – Encourage a teacher or pastor.
    August – Watch a young mother’s children or make a meal for her.
    September – Give blood to Red Cross.
    October – Visit shut-in or elderly individual.
    November – Invite someone to your table for Thanksgiving.
    December – Read the Christmas story aloud to someone.
    ~~~
    New Year’s Goal:
    Self to Self-less.
    Put others in center.
    Orbit around them
    Serve.
    Love.
    Give.
    ~~~
    Goals.
    Achievements.
    Dreams.
    Desires.
    Other minded.
    Lifts.
    Inspires.

    Others do the same.
    ~~~
    Achieve.
    Believe.
    Conceive,
    Receive.
    In giving to others.
    You give to self.
    From I to others;
    From resolution to revolution.
    Make a New Year's Revolution
    Around others.
    ~~~

  • SLIPS AND FALLS

    SLIPS AND FALLS
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

    Daily walk.
    Slipped.
    Fell.
    Snow covered ice,
    Fell to the right.
    Leaned in …
    Caught fall.
    Elbows extending,
    Shoulders shifting,
    Feet lifting.
    Ouch!
    Muscle strain,
    Deep pain.
    Single strand of thought:
    “The problem with accidents is that you can’t see them coming.”
    -Winnie the Pooh
    ~~~
    Indeed.
    Stand up.
    Brush off.
    Move about.
    Stretch.
    ~~~
    Today’s slip;
    Tomorrow’s bruising.
    Aches and pains ...
    And muscle strains.
    Still …
    The walk is good.
    ~~~
    “The problem with accidents is that you can’t see them coming.”
    Life is a walk.
    Accidents part of it.
    Slips and falls.
    Inevitable.
    ~~~
    See the One,
    Who walked before you.
    Call on Him …
    He won’t ignore you.
    Jesus.
    The slip-less,
    Fall-less,
    Flaw-less,
    Sin-less One.

    Calls you.
    Implores you.
    Gently restores you.
    Urges you....
    Keep on walking!
    ~~~
    All of life:
    Physically,
    Relationally,
    Emotionally,
    Spiritually.
    Includes ....
    Slips,
    Falls,
    And desperate calls
    To God.
    ~~~
    Options:
    Stay down
    Or stand up.
    Quit walking.
    Keep walking.

    You decide.
    ~~~
    Slips and falls.
    Teachers in disguise.
    Not disenablers.
    ~~~
    Stand up.
    Brush yourself off.
    Stretch your muscles.
    Get moving.
    Remember:
    Bruises,
    Breaks,
    And your mistakes …
    Are all part of the walk.
    ~~~
    Enjoy the scenery:
    Snow
    Or Greenery.
    Live in the moment
    You’ve got.
    A walk in the park.
    A light in the dark.
    Risk is a piece of the journey.
    God’s on the journey with you.
    ~~~
    “The Lord upholds all who fall;
    And raises up all who are bowed down.”
    Psalm 145:14

  • THE REST-GIVER

    THE REST-GIVER
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

    Reflect.
    Renew.
    Recharge.
    Receive.
    Christmas is over.
    Commercialism,
    Commotion,
    Conversations ….
    Cease.
    ~~~~
    Quiet replaces
    The faces,
    Traces
    Of loved ones,
    Around the tree.
    ~~~
    Exhausted one
    Seeks Exalted One.
    Lonely one
    Seeks Living One.
    Empty one
    Seeks Identifying One;
    Restless one
    Seeks Rest-Giving One.

    ~~~
    The Rest-Giver
    Comes ….
    Canopies weary frame:
    Quiets,
    Consoles,
    Comforts,
    Communes;
    Concerned by the cares
    Of the soul.
    ~~~
    Covering,
    Carrying,
    Cradling

    The soul.....
    The Christ of compassion
    Comes in.
    The Rest-Giver;
    Jesus,
    Within.
    ~~~
    For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel;
    “In returning and rest you shall be saved;
    In quietness and confidence shall be your strength…”
    Isaiah 30:15
  • A SACRIFICIAL MOMENT
    A SACRIFICIAL MOMENT
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt
    Was God of all the universe,
    Excited Christmas Day?
    Did He see the baby Jesus
    In the manger full of hay?
    Did He see the mother Mary,
    When she held Him in her arms?
    Did He see her kiss Him gently,
    Hold Him close and keep Him warm?
    Did He watch the shepherds coming,
    Closely following the star?
    Did He see as wise men followed,
    Traveling from a land afar?
    Did He see the baby Jesus?
    Did He see the tiny King?
    Or did He see His precious Son,
    That He loved more than anything?
    The excitement of the moment,
    All the human eye can see:
    Was a sacrificial moment;
    Christ would die for you ... and me.
    Giving all; receiving nothing,
    What a gift on Christmas Day;
    When the God of all creation,
    Placed our Savior in the hay.
    Merry Christmas.
    Fearful,
    Fickle,
    Frail.
    Man’s traits.
    Fearless,
    Faultless.
    Faithful.
    God’s traits.
    ~~~
    Every day we rise…
    To these realities.
    Shown a glimpse,
    Sometimes more
    Of who we are,
    What we are,
    Apart from Him.
    ~~~
    Someone’s reading this.
    Tempted to
    Give up,
    Slip up,
    Mess up,
    Hang it up.
    God speaks to you.
    Desires to:
    Hold you up,
    Stand you up,
    Clean you up,
    Help you up.
    Love on you.
    ~~~
    Christmas introduced
    A Savior.
    Blessed is the one
    Who recognizes…
    His need to be saved.
    ~~~
    God will be faithful.
    He has promised.
    Desires to replace:
    Fearfulness with Faithfulness.
    Weakness with Strength.
    Sadness with Gladness.
    Hopelessness with Hope.
    This is the heartbeat of Christmas.
    You are the reason Christ came.
    Which being interpreted is,
    God with us.”
  • PURE AND PURPOSED
    PURE AND PURPOSED
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt
    8) But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. 9) Now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. 10) And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, ‘I fear the lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink; for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? Then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.’ 11) Then said Daniel to Melzar whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. 12) ‘Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat and water to drink. 13) Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenances of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat; and as thou sees, deal with thy servants.’ 14) So he consented to them in this manner, and proved them ten days. 15) And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. 16) Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink, and gave them pulse. 17) As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
    Daniel 1:8-17
    ~~~~
    There is nothing like conviction to change the course and the destiny of an individual’s life.
    Daniel asserted his convictions over details that many would find unnecessary and undesirable, but then, Daniel was one of those people that really didn’t care what “the many” thought. His life was lived in communion with the Lord and his uncompromising convictions were based and established through that communion; hence, his provoking leadership ability.
    Throughout his life and throughout the book of Daniel we read of an individual who was sold out and committed to his relationship and service for God regardless of cost. Whether it was daily bread or daily prayer, his conduct remained unaltered by the thoughts and lifestyles of others.
    Daniel was decidedly different.
     Daniel was pure and purposed.
    Similarly, God has not called you to be like others but to be set apart from others and to live a free and God glorifying life.
    Steep yourself in the word, stay committed to the course, and live your life in the context of communion with Him; this is a life that’s decidedly different.
    This is a life that's pure and purposed.

  • OVERWHELMED

    OVERWHELMED
    By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

    Be more overwhelmed by the grace of God,
    Than the test you face today.
    Be more overwhelmed by the word of God,
    Than the words you hear men say.
    When you stand alone then stand in Him,
    And He says, “I’ll be your stay.”
    Live in the grace that God provides,
    And be overwhelmed this day.”
