By: Darrelyn L. TuttThe recording of this passage affords an internal empowerment and blessing which I cannot adequately describe. Put your pen to it, do as I do this day, and record it."The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones. And caused me to pass by them round about; and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and lo, they were very dry. And He said unto me, 'Son of man, can these bones live?' And I answered, 'O Lord God, Thou knowest.' Again He said unto me, 'Prophesy upon these bones and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.' Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; 'Behold I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.' So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them. Then said He unto me, 'Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, 'Thus saith the Lord God, Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and they stood upon their feet, an amazing army."Ezekiel 37:1-10Today's Read: Ezekiel 37; John 10------This is a signature piece, a rare classic which God allows us to be privy to.Gosh, I would've liked to been a mouse in that valley. Can you imagine? It reads like some kind of out-of-the-body, sci-fi creation from an individual on an overdose of morphine. But its the Gospel and it's a true story.Mmmm ...Forgive me if I get over the top on this one but it's such an emphatic declaration and manifestation of the might of "my" Father. He is supreme, strong, and mighty. He has the power to snuff out life and breathe life;To take life and create life. All because ... He is our life.------We could go a thousand different directions but I'll withdraw two precious realities on this one and leave you at it:1) God breathes life into death. He doesn't talk about redemptive acts; He performs them. God gave Ezekiel this "living motion picture" because Israel was undergoing and experiencing a "dry bones" season. Lifeless and hopeless, despondent and discouraged, God's people questioned the validity and strength of their Redeemer. Years of disobedience and neglect had taken its toll on a sacred relationship. Ties with God had been severed and severely twisted, and but for a few stray seekers, the scene of Israel looked very dismal.Israel was the valley of dry bones ... But for a time.Ezekiel would be a spokesman for God and usher the people back into a life-giving relationship that would herald restoration, renewal, and hope.God would breathe into His people and His breath would be forceful enough to make bone attach to bone in the greatest "clicking and clacking" sound ever heard. What an extraordinary God we serve.Who but God can do such a thing?"Ah Lord GOD! Behold, Thou hast made the heaven and the earth by Thy great power and stretched out arm and there is nothing too hard for Thee."Jeremiah 32:17Don't despair, dear child of God, The very Father that raised up an army out of dry bones shall, in like manner, restore, strengthen and renew your inner man.The Word of God is declared the breath of God (2Tim.3:16-17.)Inhale and exhale the Word.Breathe in the holy, cleansing life of the Father.------2) Redemption rides on the heels of repentance.Compassion encompasses those who confess.Mercy meets honesty every time. The goal of the prophets was to testify to the greatness and glory of God and to reestablish relationship between God and His people.God wasn't "hating" from the heavens; He was hurting. He was grieving a loss of relationship with man and preparing an eternal redemptive plan that would restore lost relationship with Him.That's what God's about. That what Easter was about.God looked down on the valley of dry bones when He sent His Beloved Son Jesus to die for us. In one glorious holy exhale, He charged His Son to bring life to our dry bones, that we might live again, and He allowed His Spirit to enter into us that we might breathe again.O God be praised and glorified for His holy and timely wonders.Think on what God might do yet through you and be encouraged!-He delights in showcasing the dry bones.-He desires to breathe into the dry bones.-He decides what He does with the dry bones. But in me ...He's redeemed me and breathed His life into dry bones. And I rejoice and testify to His holy name.Hallelujah and glory to my Beloved Father, my Christ, and my Redeemer.Whatever state you find yourself in, take Ezekiel's message to heart and return to the One who is strong enough, big enough, and holy enough to breathe life into you."Son of man, can these bones live?"And I answered, "O Lord GOD, Thou knowest."------"The thief cometh not but for to steal, kill, and destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."John 10:10
