"Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. And they saw the God of Israel; and there was under His feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in His clearness. And upon the nobles of the children of Israel He laid not His hand; also they saw God, and did eat and drink."
Exodus 24:9-11
This spectactular, supernatural vision of God is shared with "us" and intended for our eyes also. To appreciate the beauty and wonder of "God on the Sapphire" requires a bit of knowledge about the stone.
Sapphire sure-fire Facts:
+Sapphire is the September birthstone and traditional 5th and 45th "Anniversary" celebratory stone.
+Sapphire belongs to the mineral family known as corundum.
+Sapphire is the second strongest natural gemstone in existence (diamonds are first.) The durability of the Sapphire is what makes it an excellent choice for daily use; it's almost impossible to scratch.
+The best known Sapphires are of a rich and brilliant blue though they actually come in every color of the rainbow; the rarest type being of pinkish-orange color.
+Various cultures attribute mystical and magical powers to the Sapphire and in ancient times were worn to ward off evil.
+Deep blue Sapphires suggest royalty (royal blue,) and often worn by medieval kings.
+The most famous royal Sapphire to date is the engagement ring given to Princess Diana by England's Prince Charles. The ring is now worn by Princess Catherine and composed of 18 carot royal blue Sapphire stone surrounded by diamonds.
+Sapphires can exhibit a curious phenomenon called the "star effect" whereby they reflect a perfect six point star pattern.
+The most intriguing Sapphires are those given to color-change. These unique gemstones begin as blue in daylight and turn to a lovely lavendar in incandescent light.
God ... what kind of "Stone" is He to you?
What does He stand on in your mind?
Do you see Him in blue or in an orange and pinkish hue?
Do you see him reflecting His Sapphire glory and emblazened in a six-starred-studded kind of evocative brilliance? Do you see Him standing on the "stones of time" and revealing Himself to mankind and more personably ... to you?
How does a "lunch on the stone" even seem possible with such brilliance emanating?
 my small mind wonders.
What was it like to eat, drink, and dine ... and be privy to this "Setting of Stone" and God in their midst revealing His glory?
Unimaginable. Unforgettable. Unbelievable.
How do men stray and ever forget such a sighting and company with God?
How do men wander and wonder who have seen such a heavenly and divine vision?
And yet we grope in blindness, along with the elders and the priests, in our continuance of forgetfulness.
It's all such a wonder.
The four and the seventy are just like you and me,
moments whereby we see ... and then the infiltration of this world.
We must remember that these men dining in the presence of Sapphire glory will soon be bowing quickly to the calf created and constructed out of gold and ... that's another story.
It's almost maddening ... this awful possibility.
Isn't it?
Hmmm ...
I leave you with this vision in royal blue.
Witness the God on the Sapphire stone and worship Him alone.
See Him for yourself!
Close your eyes and experience His glory;
Expose your soul to the royal blue story.
With the God on the Sapphire ...
Eat, drink, and dine.
