-Eleanor is an extraordinary artist.
-Steve is an extraordinary graphic designer.
-Carla is an extraordinary vocalist.
-Mike is an extraordinary musician.
-Sarah is an extraordinary writer.
Jenny recounts the "extraordinariness" of each of her friends with ease and quickness.
Envious of the "obvious" in her loved ones, she questions whether she possesses anything of "extraordinary" value.
Indeed, so bent on identifying a gift within herself is she, that she has labored to apply the gifts of others to herself.
This endeavor has proven unfruitful, futile, and frustrating.
Hmmm ...
What's the deal with gifts? Jenny wonders,
And have I been left out?
A gift is something very special that God personally sanctions and appoints to each and every individual.
No one is left out and no one remains "giftless."
Gifts translate into an intimate bridge between the soul and God;
Gifts convey an intimate story about God's originality, personalness, and creativity,
And they project back to Himself.
In a nutshell,
Gifts are an intimate story between the Giver (God) and the receiver (you and me) that garner God glory when they're utilized for Him.
The biggest trouble with gifts isn't whether we possess them,
But whether we compare them.
-Karen houses the extraordinary gift of hospitality but it's a "quiet" gift without a platform.
-Paul has an extraordinary sense of wisdom and discernment; a wondrous gift of counsel which translates into private conversations and needful advice shared behind "closed" doors but affecting countless individuals. Paul's gift doesn't broadcast itself openly but it's definitely extraordinary.
-Mike is an extraordinary mechanic; he works behind closed doors and under vehicle hoods. Mike's giftedness is housed in his mechanical brilliant mind which can fix about anything.
-Sarah is an invalid confined to bed. She possesses a mind and soul of meditation, brilliance, and camaraderie with God that few will come close to on earth. She's developed an intercessory prayer life second to none and she adapts herself to the needs of others in a highly unusual and extraordinary way.
God has personally apportioned, assigned, and distributed specific gifts to specific individuals for His special and specific purposes.
You have been included, dear Reader.
Take heart and for a start ...
Inquire of another where they see God at work in you.
You will be blessed.
Consider the following truths God gives us in His word and be further encouraged:
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
Ephesians 2:10
"As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
1 Peter 4:10
"For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So, we being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the gifts given us ..."
Romans 12:4-6
There's a "lift" in the gift which God has given personally to each of us.
See Him in it,
Love Him with it,
Share Him with others through it.
