This study is progressive and picks up where the last one left off. If you're just beginning, please take time to look back and review.
"And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle; this shall be the first row. And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their enclosings. And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names like the engravings of a signet; every one with the names shall they be according to the twelve tribes."
Exodus 28:17-21
The Ligure is the first stone situated in the third row of the High Priest's breastplate and linked with the tribe of Dan.
My search and study of the "Ligure" stone proved curiously fruitful though it provided me with more questions than answers as does the tribe of Dan. In the end, suggestions and possibilities were the only real contributions and, while they were interesting, the possibilities differed enormously. So ... perhaps a little "wild stone" is thrown into the breastplate of the High Priest to keep us wondering.
A perfect stone matched with Dan.
"Ligure occurs only in Exodus 28:19 and 39:12, as the name of a stone in the third row on the High Priest's breastplate. Some have supposed this stone was the same as the Jacinth, others that it was the Opal. There is now no mineral bearing this name. The "Ligurite" is so named from Liguria in Italy, where it was found."

Let's consider a few curious wonderings about the tribe of Dan while we're at it.
"Dan shall judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horses heals so that his rider shall fall backward."
Genesis 49:16-17
This Biblical "blessing" is most curious and many have questioned whether the anti-Christ might hail from this tribe for this reason. Read it closely again and consider ... "The serpent by the way."
It's also of great interest that when the 144,000 are "sealed" in Revelation 7, Dan's tribe is left out. Does this have significance? Maybe.
Judas (1 of the 12) and Ahithophel (the counselor of David whose word was as the very word of God; 2 Samuel 16:23) both committed suicide and strayed far from God in the end, though divine participants early on.
It is certainly a consideration that the anti-Christ might spring forth from an "unsuspecting" tribe of twelve.
Hmmm ...
Once again the stone and the tribe parallel one another; the Ligure and the tribe of Dan remain a mysterious duo.
Yet they remain on the breastplate of the High Priest and Christ carries them to completion until the end.
Look at the Ligure, listen to Dan ...
and learn.
"Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and ye perish from the way; when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him."
Psalm 2:11-12
