This study is progressive and picks up where the last one left off. If you're just beginning, please take time to look back and review.
"And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle; this shall be the first row. And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their enclosings. And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names like the engravings of a signet; every one with the names shall they be according to the twelve tribes."
Exodus 28:17-21
Today's stone is the Onyx and our tribe is Joseph.

Located in the fourth row and center on the High Priest's breastplate is the Onyx.
A high-pedigreed stone of stately countenance, the Onyx speaks to strength, dignity, and class.
Facts about the Onyx:
+The Onyx is a part of the Quartz mineral family boasting a wide variation of color in marbled layering.
+The Onyx has a smooth glass feel and a wax-like luster which gives it a rich, classy, and sophisticated look.
+Onyx is only found in three places: Arizona, Mexico, and Algeria.
+Onyx is the birthstone of December.
+The word "Onyx" is a Greek word referencing a claw nail or fingernail.
*Sardonyx (for which this August study is named) is a beautifully colored Onyx composed of shades of red which look absolutely breathtaking in a surround of silver. The Sardonyx is equated with eloquence and persuasive writing.
"Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well, whose branches run over the wall. The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him; But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel.).
... The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills; they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren."
Genesis 49:22-26
Deuteronomy 33:13-17 leaves a blessed impartation on the tribe of Joseph almost incomparably above all the others.
Indeed, the blessing is literally doubled and divided through Joseph's sons Ephraim and Mannaseh as God prescribed him.
Joseph and the Onyx speak to traits of resilience, resourcefulness, riches, class, and depth  forged and found only in a few places and in only a few people.
The Onyx stands alone in its tempered realities of surviving unusual and deep sufferings and procuring a stately position in spite of, and in the heat of, animosity, jealousy, and great envy. Waxed with glory and shine by the hand of the Almighty HImself and sufficiently emblazened into the High Priest's breastplate, the placement of Joseph is laid beautifully and forever into the breast of the Father.
Christ Himself shall convey the Onyx into the presence of the great King and transfer His glory onto it. The strength of evil brethren banded together to bruise and hurt shall all be factored in and account for the beauty in the marbled coloring and "waxed sealing" of the stone.
The Onyx is a one-of-a-kind, beautiful kind of stone.
And to the end ...
The High Priest shall color it and carry it alone.
Beautiful Sardonyx.
Original Onyx.
