AUGUST 22 - Meditation: Genesis 31:24-30

DAY 22 - G3224S

By: Darrelyn L. Tutt
Today's Meditation: Genesis 32:24-30

"And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, 'Let me go, for the day breaketh.' And he said, 'I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.' And he said unto him, 'What is thy name?"
And he said, 'Jacob.'
And he said, 'Thy name shall no called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.' And Jacob asked him and said, 'Tell me, I pray thee, thy name.'
And he said, 'Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name?' And he blessed him there.
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."
Genesis 32:24-30
Ladder Rung: G3224S
G and S are the first and last letters of Genesis.
Selection of words to aid in memory:
Grasping Salvation.
Jacob wrestled in the "dark" hours with fierce intensity and full exertion and, in doing so, obtained a pronounced blessing from the Lord.
This is Jacob grasping salvation.
32:24 is our reference.
At 3:00 PM we'll rehearse our passage x2.
x2 we'll rehearse our passage again at 4:00 PM and this will take us into our evening hours.
Jacob obtains a rare blessing through an unusual wrestling.
In the wee dark hours while other men are sleeping, Jacob is afforded the unusual opportunity to take literal hold of the "divinity" and my, how He goes after it!
If the suggestion of this doesn't captivate and hold you spellbound ... I don't know what will.
And forcefully,
Jacob grasps, not the heal of his brother exiting the womb, but the hope of salvation in God-hungry hands.
"It becomes those whom God honors, to admire His grace towards them. The Angel who wrestled with Jacob was the second person in the sacred Trinity, who was afterwards God manifest in the flesh, and who dwelling in human nature, is called Immanuel."
-Matthew Henry

Beautiful Jacob "face to face" with my Redeemer.
Jacob understood the value of the "wrestle" like he understood the value, early on, in the blessing. He is not a docile tenderfoot, but an earnest, avid, intentional, deliberate contender of the faith!
Jacob's testimony evokes, provokes, invokes every kind of "fight" within me and implores me to hold fast to the One who wields the power to name me, pronounce me, and amply afford me with the richest of blessing.
The internal "wrestlings" of the soul procure an individual with the most unusual blessing. One can never know what will transpire for the soul actively engaged with Him ... but one can know it will be supremely excellent in its end.
Mmmm ...
Jacob does not know that the family he is leading home, in this passage, has just been named "Israel."
He doesn't know that his wrestling has just invoked a name on his twelve sons, combined, and that these sons, will become the 12 prominent tribes composing the "whole" of Israel.
The wondrous, mysterious, manifold timing and dispensations of God are off-the-charts extraordinary.
Before Jacob returns to his "promised land", the nation of Israel has been born.
Israel - "As a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed."
Holy Hallelujah on the defining erupting from a wrestling match with God.
Amen and Beautiful.
To God be all glory.
This is the Christ who I love,
The Christ who I adore,
The Christ I'm entangled with, grappling with, and coming to grasp in a more complete way.
Wrestle, my friend, with an understanding of whom you wrestle with.
Who cares whether the joints get out of place, sprains occur, or a bone snaps in the fight.
Reach for the blessing found in Christ.
Throw off the hindrances imposed by man and part ways with him.
Plead for the mercy and manifold blessing of God on your life and accept nothing less.
God be with you on your journey.
There's blessing in the wrestling ...
Reach for more.
Holy and infinite Father,
Thy name secures for me and holds out for me abundant blessing.
Thou hast shown the blessing and reward at the end of the struggle for those contending for a faith imperishable, reserved in heaven, and engrafted in the soul.
Thou hast decided for me and procured for me an unusual status and name's sake.
Thou hast allotted me and blessed me with the eternal and internal "sealing" of Thy great and Holy Spirit and infused my flesh with the radiance of Thy presence.
Yes, Thou art too good for mortal man.
Yes, Thou art glorious and immortally beautiful.
Let full the blessing be,
When wrestling is appointed me.
Thou perfect Savior.
