Stacy joined an "End-time" Bible study only to find herself entirely overwhelmed by a litany of words she'd never heard of.
Too intimidated to ask questions and to insecure to put her face forward, she quietly escaped from the study and never returned  ... but with two words rolling around in her head:
"What in the heck is a Gog and Magog?" Stacy asks.
Hmmm ...
Gog and Magog are mentioned only twice "together" in the Bible:
Ezekiel 38:1-39:16 and Revelation 20:7-11
(*In Genesis 10 Magog is listed in the lineage of Japheth.
If you want to study the origin more in depth, compare the names utilized in Genesis 10 and Ezekiel 38:2, and prepare to be fascinated.)
Three basic facts about Gog and Magog:
1) Gog is a person and Magog is a land.
"Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, prophesy against him."
Ezekiel 38:2
The forecast of names representing Gog and Magog are endless but it's most certainly safe to assume and assert Gog as an Anti-Christ in some form.
Gog's rulership, dominion, and land realm are referenced as his "Magog" which is going to be vast and extensively and expensively fortified.
The assigning of specific world leaders and countries to Gog and Magog is extensive.
I'll leave you at that and move on.
2) Both Gog and Magog represent opposition to Israel.
"Therefore son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, 'Thus saith the Lord God; In that day when My people Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company and a mighty army; And thou shalt come up against My people Israel as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against My land, that the heathen may know Me, when I shall be sanctified in Thee, O Gog, before their eyes.'"
Ezekiel 38:14-16
As predicted in the Bible, Israel is going to be hated, rejected, and encompassed by her allied foes in the end.
She will be turned upon and persecuted, not because of her evil but because of her "chosenness" by God.
3) While Gog is a fierce contender and "hater" of Israel,
his battle lies primarily with God.
And God shall fight and be Victor of the final battle.
"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison. And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together in battle; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the Saints about, and the beloved city; and fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them."
Revelation 20:7-9
Satan's primary goal is to defeat God which, of course, is an impossibility.
God will triumph and has already announced His triumph in advance.
But the events leading up to this cataclysmic moment are most certainly in the making ... even now.
It's my hope that you've been exposed to helpful Biblical realities which will lead you further into a study of God's precious word.
Know God's word and stake your life on it, dear Reader.
All things will happen exactly as God has announced and He will reign as Victor,
No Gog preventing.
