"There is gold and a multitude of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel."
Proverbs 20:15
The thing we prize most shows up in the way we live our lives.
Something or someone becomes the "crowned jewel" to each of us and none of us can decide for the other what the crowned jewel will be.
-If money is the "crowned jewel" then we pursue the "Benjamins" and set out for a life comprised of acquiring, achieving, and owning.
We speak to it and of it.
-If position is the "crowned jewel" then we secure ourselves with earned titles and degrees and make sure our name is attached to one.
We speak to it and of it.
-If popularity and fame is the "crowned jewel" then we erect pillars for ourselves and speak well of ourselves in the minds and ears of others.
We speak to it and of it.
-If projection is the "crowned jewel" then we attempt to mask all things with a pretended virtue and subtil hypocrisy.
We speak to it and of it.
We know in our minds that all earthly attainments die, decay, and are eventually disposed of and yet what a time we have dethroning them.
The "crowned jewel" of true value can't be bought ... but it can be sought, and that by one and all. There is no discrimination or committee which decides who the "crowned jewel" shall be worn by or what lips shall produce it.
But God alone.
Of all earthly wonders this is a jewel by itself.
"But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel."
And what is knowledge ...
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Proverbs 1:7
"He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Happy is the man that feareth always; but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief."
Proverbs 28:13-14
"The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe."
Proverbs 29:25
Knowledge and fear of the Lord walk hand in hand as do lips and confession.
An open departure from evil is an honest display of knowledge as is the fear of the Lord. Lips of knowledge precede from ongoing relationship and confession with God and a healthy fear of the Lord assists in it.
"Yea, if thou criest after knowledge and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God."
Proverbs 2:3-5
What's your crowned jewel?
