"And thou shalt set it in settings of stones, even four rows of stones: The first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle; this shall be the first row. And the second row shall be an emerald, sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their enclosings. And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names like the engravings of a signet, every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes."
Exodus 28:17-21

The symbolism woven into the High Priest's garment was extraordinary.
Order, color, design, uniformity, conformity, creativity, and tangible mercy were all ordained  stones woven visibly into the fabric of the High Priest's attire.
In this way an atonement in the breastplate and on the shoulders was applied and evenly distributed to all twelve tribes of Israel, no tribe and no single man preventing.
+No stone was ever removed.
+No color was ever blotted out.
 +No tribe was ever extinguised.
The High Priest carried and conveyed God's people into the Most Holy Place and represented them all.
God ordained and designed this clear and ongoing redemptive plan visibly for all to see and remember that He loved them ...  and then He transferred the High Priest role to His Son Jesus Christ upon His finished work on the cross, who now lives and intercedes for "us" this very moment in a similar fashion.
It's remarkable ... this "no tribe" left behind policy!
Pray to enjoy and experience the blessing of redemption conferred upon you.
The Sardius stone is the first stone mentioned and is better known as the Carnelian.
It's blood-red in color and speaks to the crimson blood and the color of redemption; it also speaks to judgment, jealousy, and fiery wrath.
In Ezekiel 28:13 it's listed as part of Satan's "perfect" covering in the Garden of God and in Revelation 21:19 it's enlisted as the sixth foundation stone in the holy Jerusalem.
The first stone (Sardius) and the last stone (Jasper,) represent the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and Omega.
The Sardius stone symbolizes Jacob's firstborn son, Reuben.
Sardius is translucent and fine-grained, well known for its beauty, strength, and vibrant color. Not surprisingly, it's been found and familiar to excavation sites where subjects of royalty have been recovered.
But the greatest subject of royalty to ever "wear red" and the Sardius color is Jesus Christ.
Look at Him in His beauty and brilliance and worship Him.
And He that sat was to look upon like a Jasper and a Sardius stone, and there was a rainbow round about the throne, and behold a throne was set in heaven and One sat on the throne. And He that sat was to look upon like a Jasper and a Sardius stone and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an Emerald.
Revelation 4:2-3
Reuben forfeited the "firstborn" blessing through a sin of defilement (Gen.49:1-2) but his stone wasn't removed and God's hand prevailed and presided over the "color" in his life.
Reuben would remain a beloved stone woven into the High Priest's garments.
"Let Reuben live and not die, and let not his men be few."
Deut. 33:6
The Sardius speaks to the color of redemption;
remember ... the first stone on the garment.
Look at the High Priest, see the stone,
and remember the Redeemer who carries you.
The Sardius Savior.
