Each of the 12 tribes was assigned a specific stone by God.
The tribes listed here are in the order of the "blessing" invoked upon them by Jacob in Genesis 49 which agrees with my own frame of reference for this study.
The stones were assigned 4 rows and not the 3 as displayed here (photo was chosen for best viewing purposes.) The stones were woven into the priestly garment and carried into the Most Holy place on the shoulders and breastplate of the High Priest and in this most intriguing way brought before God.
Atonement was made corporately for the nation of Israel through the High Priest who represented the entire nation of Israel (12 tribes) and carried the stones in his garment. The High Priest was the acting mediator in the Old Testament between God and man until the time of Christ.
*See yesterday's photo of the High Priest and the situated stones.
"And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row. And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their enclosings. And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes."
Exodus 28:17-21
Today's stone is the Topaz ... Simeon's stone and November's birthstone.
While there's a wide range of colors assigned the topaz, our selection is the Imperial Topaz  also known as the Precious Topaz, an intense brilliant yellow.
In their finest state these stones are neither treated nor heated.
The origins of these extremely rare and valuable stones are located most commonly in the Ouro Preto mines in Minas, Gerais, and Brazil.
Imagine unearthing one of these beauties on a "mining" day ... like the discovery of the sun captured in a jewel.
Absolutely gorgeous.
The topaz links us to words of opulance, luxury, influence, and generosity and is hailed as a stone of great power linked to heat and energy. It's said to have lunar connections and, according to the moon's cycles reported to wax and wane in color intensity.
Let's now consider where the topaz is mentioned in the Bible outside of the priestly garment. I think we'll find ourselves thinking more colorfully, creatively, and correctly reading the passages.
"No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls; for the price of wisdom is above rubies. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold."
Job 28:18-19
Ezekiel 28:13 (the topaz is enlisted in Satan's covering.)
Revelation 21:20 the topaz is listed as the ninth stone in the walls of Jerusalem at the end of time.
The topaz shines with a sunlight glory and transmits a beautiful story about our "Sonship" in Christ.
Interestingly, Simeon (2nd son of Jacob) would be known for his cruelty and violence, and linked with Levi (Genesis 49:5-7.) Still, the tribe of Simeon remains firmly situated in the High Priest's garments ... as the gleaming topaz.
Perhaps later he will be blessed through Levi's blessing in Deut. 33 ... though it's a most curious omission.
Beautifully and wonderfully God ties the brotherhood together in mysterious ways and the topaz remains along with His people Israel ... and all who believe.
Topaz Truth.
