"And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle; this shall be the first row. And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their enclosings. And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names like the engravings of a signet; every one with the names shall they be according to the twelve tribes."
Exodus 28:17-21
Today's Stone: Emerald
The Emerald is the first stone in the second row worn on the breastplate of the High Priest, representing Judah, and also May's birthstone.
The brilliant green hue of the Emerald is unsurpassed in color making it a highly sought after stone. It's a softer gem of low density made from beryl and trace amounts of chromium which gives it its brilliant color.
The emerald is more expensive because it poses a greater risk of chipping and cracking.
An Emerald weighing 1.5 carats can put a substantial dent in the wallet and set you back some $18,000.
Cleopatra was so enamored with the stone that she took possession of an Emerald mine in Egypt belonging to the Greeks and claimed it for herself.
Royalty thereafter hailed it as a signature elitist stone.
Stare long at the Emerald for it is said to settle the soul.
The Emerald is known for its peaceful calming effects and supports the sanctioned blessing  imposed on the tribe of Judah. Peace would hail from this very tribe.
"The sceptre shall not depart from Judah nor a lawgiver from between his feet; until Shiloh come and unto him shall the gathering of people be."
Genesis 49:10
Indeed, the word Shiloh means peace and the glorious reference here is Christ.
Other passages referencing the Emerald:
"Aram was your customer because of the abundance of your goods, they paid for your wares with emeralds, purple embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and rubies."
Ezekiel 27:16
"He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance and there was a rainbow around the throne like an emerald in appearance."
Revelation 4:3
Put the colors together and try to imagine this illustrious scene.

The color schemes of God are fantastic as are His promises and to think of being carried on His holy breast is almost inconceivable and yet our reality, for Christ is our great High Priest.
The color of peace ... the tribe of Judah.
The fourth stone.
