BLUE PETE PARAKEET

BLUE PETE PARAKEET

By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

Remember the childhood Kindergarten test which invoked the circling of an object in the, "Which One of These Doesn't Belong" segments?
Refresher course:
-Three vegetables and a stop sign.
-Three farm implements and a kangaroo.
-Three babies and a horseshoe.
Gosh, but I was a whiz on this segment, leading me to wonder if there was anything I wasn't capable of passing after flying through this decently ego-charged portion of the test.
Where were these when the SAT'S came out my mind wonders.
Hmmm ...
-----
Yesterday, while charged with fervent fury on my five mile speedwalk, the "Which One of These Doesn't Belong" part of the test presented itself.
Things I see:
-Robins, turtledoves, sparrows and ... a gorgeous bright blue parakeet.
"Blue Pete parakeet" which is what I immediately named him, prevailed upon my path in the most beautiful, bold, and direct fashion.
While I thoroughly enjoyed a "sighting" of him and took wonderful photos of him,
I wished he hadn't been there and could hardly stand watching him.
His vulnerability ...
He was so directly, incorrectly, and disconnectedly out of place.
His very distinction had sealed his fate and the cage which once held him safe had somehow been escaped and he had been let go.
Blue Pete parakeet was in trouble.
Within one block the beautiful little exotic bird, that stayed very near me, was seized upon and savored by Carl the salivating cat.
Blue Pete parakeet became nothing but a colorful feather-duster.
Bugger and Blast on my beautiful little colorful friend.
-----
This being said, Psalm 23 is highlighted in my head, and I reflect on the safety which my Good Shepherd provides:
-He secures me with green pastures which I've found are not greener on the other side.
-He leads me beside still waters which I've found are nothing but churned up on the other side.
-He comforts my soul and supplies me with a safe and sacred companionship which none can provide me with on the other side.
-He procures me with promises which none can provide me with on the other side.
-He gives me rest.
----
Blue Pete parakeet reminds me of the wisdom and safety found within my Father's care.
In staying near Him, I am blessed.
He is my resting place,
My nesting place,
My one true place ...
Of refuge.
I must fly to Him,
And there remain.

"Keep me as the apple of the eye; hide me under the shadow of Thy wings."
Psalm 17:8
