SPACES AND PLACES

SPACES AND PLACES

By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

There are spaces and places in our lives that generate energy, inspire empowerment, and excite passion. Many of us unconsciously find ourselves drawn to such places yet have difficulty concretely identifying them.
It's good and wise to know where these spaces and places are in order to visit them intentionally and frequently.
Possibilities are endless:
Library. Humane Society. River. Backyard. Bike path. Nursery. Mountains. Trees. Waterways. Deck. Shop. Tractor. Garden. Kitchen. Concert. Coffee shop.
What places replenish you?
-----
Consider places and spaces:
+Sarah derives energy from being near elderly individuals.
She notices herself feeling rejuvenated and uplifted when technology is absent and time slows down. Twice a week Sarah replenishes herself with two visits to two of her elderly friends and treats them to an enjoyable meal out.
Sarah's investment pays dividends in an unhurried and rested self throughout the rest of the week.
Certain places and spaces breed rejuvenation.

+Jim finds himself replenished outdoors.
After a long day of being cooped up in the office, nothing restores his sense of sanity and self like a blast of the outdoors and being alone. Never mind that three children and a tired wife are waiting for welcome-home hugs. Jim knows that he's better for himself and his family when he simply invests in 30 to 45 minutes of downtime and outdoor time ... before more committed time.
A little "explore" time replenishes the soul.
Jim's investment pays dividends through a whole-hearted approach to both his family and  career when he feels replenished, refreshed, and reenergized.
Certain places and spaces afford replenishment.

+Darrell loves water.
Rejuvenated by boating, white-water rafting, swimming, paddling, wading, and even fishing, Darrell knows that "water" does something for him so he treats himself to an encounter with it on a continual basis. Twice a week he splurges in a water "indulgence" of some kind and has fun in it.
Darrell understands that an experience in water supplies him with the sustenance needed to meet the taxing mental and physical demands required at his job.
While few identify with his curious "splurge," Darrell knows it works for him so he does it.
Certain places and spaces revive, restore, and regenerate.

What are the spaces and places that energize and empower you?
Note certain things "absent" that provide you with more energy and things present which rob you of it.
Notice what happens within you and to those around you when you've taken time to recharge and replenish your batteries. What happens when you don't?
Life is short ...
Know your spaces and places.
Select five and invest in them.
Where's your place?
