The phone rang late one evening and I answered it. A loved one was on the other end speaking unintelligible words in a desperate voice and clearly in a desperate plight. For forty-five minutes I listened to strange ramblings fearful that an abrupt departure might conclude with a very bad ending.
Intoxicated with alcohol, the ability to reason, think, and speak clearly was absent.
I remained on the line.
Echoes of my loved one’s voice penetrated my heart and mind throughout the night and I longed for God to reach into that aching heart and heal the hurts.
And I wondered …
How many times do “we” approach the throne of grace with an inebriated soul?
How many times does God hear a torrent of words revealing a disjointed heart lacking understanding and connection with Him?
How many forty-five minute rambles does God listen to over time with us?
Intoxicated by the lies of the world and the deceit of Satan, our ability to reason, think, and speak clearly is absent.
And still … God remains on the line with us.
He longs to speak with clarity to us, desirous of penetrating our wounded hearts and minds with the realities and truth of His character and word.
How long does it take before we finally understand His message of redemption and unconditional love?
How long will God endure with us?
How many ramblings will He listen to before He simply hangs up and decides He's tired of being on the other end of the line with us?
Hmmm …
The human condition is a messy condition,
And the holy God is the only One who can love us purely in that condition
Praise God for a Father who never leaves us, forsakes us, or forgets us.
Praise God for His promises,
His forgiveness,
 And His unconditional love.
Praise God we have a Father who remains on the line ...
For an eternity.
The Lord hath appeared of old unto me saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”
