JULY 21 - Proverbs 29:25 and Joshua 1:9

By: Darrelyn L. Tutt

"The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe."
Proverbs 29:25

"Have not I commanded thee (Joshua)? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest."
Joshua 1:9

Memory Catcher: The vowels in Joshua's name follow the vowels in courage.
Joshua was filled with O,U,A's. Let's build a statement of summary with the vowels:
 Omnipotent Unlimited Almighty
Courage is a supernatural byproduct of the heart that abides with the Omnipotent Unlimited Almighty.
Joshua was commanded to be strong and courageous, not because of a strength he possessed, but because of a Strength that possessed Him.
*Omnipotent means unlimited in power.
"Be strong and of a good courage ..."
Joshua 1:6
"Only be thou strong and very courageous ..." Joshua 1:7
"Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed ..."
Joshua 1:9

When a message is given by God in quick succession and sequence; it is to clarify with a certainty, a thing that is going to be performed or a needful requirement necessary to its fulfillment.
As successor of Moses, Joshua would lead and walk the nation of Israel into the promised land, and lead them into their allotted land inheritance.
Strength and courage were not suggested ideals for the task ... but necessary accompaniments needed for the completion of it.
How does a mortal man develop a superhuman courage we ask?
Hmmm ...
The answer is a little bit hidden but if you look close, you'll be blessed by it:
Sandwiched between the verses of strength and courage, you'll note that verse 8 is missing (see above.) This verse provides the link, base, and source of where Joshua's strength and courage would come from.
Read it, linger on it, and learn from it:
"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."
Joshua 1:8
God did not leave Joshua stranded, unfit, and unsupplied for the task placed before him; He supplied him with everything needed to perform it.
God gave Joshua His word;
His living, breathing, power-charged, activated, unlimited supply of His word.
Hmmm ...
This is weighty life-changing truth, my friend.
What God gave to Joshua, He also gives to you and me.
Tucked between the trials and tests appointed for your life is the certain reality, thrice given, that strength and courage are necessary enablements needed for you to obtain the "new land" God desires to give you.
"New land" is an expression of God's blessing given, and greater depth of intimacy experienced, within and beyond the lens of trial.
Your strength and courage are tucked inside God's holy word and God's Holy Spirit is tucked inside your heart to help you navigate.
Open it, study it, digest it, and pray to God that you crave it.
It is your life and sure supply ...
Of Strength and Courage.
O great Father and merciful God,
Who created my being with a need for Thy indwelling;
Fill my soul with a craving for Thy word.
Let nothing satisfy nor gratify my nature until it is solely taken with hunger of Thee.
Let Thy word lead me, instruct me, and teach me.
Let Thy Spirit feed and nurture me.
As Thou gave Thy servant Joshua ... so give unto me the strength and courage needed to fulfill Thy calling and will upon my life.
