THE ADVENTURISTBy: Darrelyn L. Tutt
Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee; and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.Genesis 12:1-5------There's this certain line that speaks to me in this passage:"So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him ..."The absolute and unwavering trust that Abram places in God as a result of hearing His voice displays a staunch early faith willing to act on what God says.Without question or hesitation, he simply responds with immediacy to the voice and word of God and ... he believes Him.God's word was enough for Abram:-He cut family ties.-He left a culture and its comforts behind.-He left the land that he loved and grew up on.He headed out to a place undefined and unclarified in order to enter into a relationship with God. Abraham prized the voice of God and this is what translated him into a unique and fulfilling relationship with God. Abraham experienced the miraculous by becoming an adventurist! And a greater adventurist there never was!Hmmm ....Abraham's patterns and movements, throughout his life, were chiefly a response to something God had told him. And while he was human and suffered setbacks and bouts of disbelief in different seasons of life, he always returned to the voice that called "his" name.Abraham desired to experience intimate adventure with God and became witness to miracles from God as a result.-------God has not given less to you and me than he has to Abraham. He has given us His written word, He has sealed us with a deposit of His very own Spirit, and He has sent His one and only Son to situate us into a relationship with Him that will sustain us moment by moment, day by day, and carry us to a home into eternity that will last forever. But in the meantime He calls us to places we have never been and incites us to leave places we have most often been ... and He simply calls us to more.He speaks to us,Your name and my name ... He calls us.Expectantly desirous of procuring and providing us with every promise He has given. What we do or don't receive from God is based on our response to the faithful overtures of God. Over and over again He calls out to us and provokes us to follow something and someone greater than ourselves or this world and its ever-escalating loud voice.+He implores us to open up His word.+Listen to His voice.+Take hold of His holy hand.+Follow Him to the place He has called us to.Our journey on earth isn't about our arrival at an external, earthly destination but about our journey and relationship with God.When He becomes our prize ...We finally rise to what we were made for.We witness the miraculous in daring to become adventurous!"So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him ..."Step into adventure and go do likewise.------Three Study Considerations:1) Read through the scriptures designated for today throughout today and record what God is telling "you."------2) Ask God to help you put feet to His word and authenticate the message He has given you. Miracles are active participants on the journey. Make sure you record them.-----3) Stop what you are doing and go where He is going. Display to yourself and to Him that you prize His voice above all.Witness the miraculous ... become an adventurist on spiritual journey.Take the next step.-----
