MAY 2 - Proverbs 2 and Matthew 13:45-46

By: Darrelyn L.Tutt

My eyes light on the early portion of this chapter:
"Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom; out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding."
Proverbs 2:3-6
The Pearl
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it."
Matthew 13:45-46
Until we search, until we seek;
The treasure isn't ours to keep.

I'm struck by the repeated active verbs woven in this passage:
Cry, Lift up, Seek, Search.
Each of these verbs delivers a sense of strength and involved intensity;
One's pursuit of God is clearly not a lazy man's sport.
Like a merchant who understands the value of the pearl hidden in the deep and resigns himself to the search of it and the giving up of "all" for it ... is the individual who is consumed by the relentless pursuit of obtaining true knowledge and understanding from the Lord.
God is the source of wisdom's pursuit ... and His word is designed to lead us to Himself;
How wondrous and glorious is this priceless pearl of truth.
The obtaining of it is worth giving up "all" for it, and the reward of intimacy with the Almighty  is worth the search.
-Know the value of God's word which has been entrusted to you and dive deep in order to have more of Him.
-Devote time and effort to the priceless treasure of securing more depth and a fuller understanding of Him.
-Persist in your efforts to obtain the wisdom God has promised you and never, ever, ever give up.
Cry, Lift up, Seek, Search.
Employ yourself in the quest for the "pearl" of eternal value.
1) What verbs would describe your present pursuit of Christ?
2) Who is an individual that models passion and persistence in their exploration and pursuit of God and ... what might be obtained by spending time with them?
3) How valuable do you believe God's word is to your life?
