NEVER GIVE UPBy: Darrelyn L. Tutt
And He spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint: Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God neither regarded man. And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for awhile, but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God nor regard man, Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge His own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of Man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?Luke 18:1-8------The widow impresses, inspires, and challenges on three significant points:1) The woman's wisdom overshadowed the judge's demeanor and she refused to wield and cower in fear to one who wielded a power and authority to change her situation. She asserted herself and presented her case before him confident that, however fearful he appeared, he would respond to her case in time and act on her behalf.Wisdom precedes activity and God honors the individual who acts on it.2) The woman's courage prevailed over any fear she might have felt in the judge's presence. With a "widow status" labeling her as insignificant and insufficient in that particular society, she asserted herself almost inappropriately and chose to disregard the common rules of conduct in that day. Asserting herself with a rare courage and aggression she pursued the matter that concerned her in a highly visible and suggestive way.The judge could have banished her, dismissed her, and even killed her for her conduct ... but she did what she had to do and he did what he had to do.Courage prevails over cowardice and God grants it to the individual insistent on obedience.3) The persistent behavior of the woman is a notable and inspiring component of her character. With an adamant refusal to give up, she sizes up her situation and she seizes a moment by creating it. She ardently, aggressively, and repeatedly suggests her respect for the judge's authority and power by her unrelenting pursuit of presenting her case before him suggesting he ought to act on that power. She is blessed and given a timely response because of her persistence and refusal to give up.Persistence is an appropriate activity when it is aligned with absolute obedience and the individual who dares to step out in it is no fool. An individual's posture and repeated attempts to return a "case" to God reveals a revelation of what is believed about His power, authority, mercy, and justice. When we believe what He says and then act on it, the possibilities are endless in what He will do through us and how He will reveal Himself to us.------Your personhood and your position is determined by the power of God and your reliance on the empowerment of His promises.Never forget and you will never give up.Present "your" case to the One who wields the power and authority to do something about it.
