By: Darrelyn L. Tutt"And the Lord said, 'Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat; But I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren."Luke 22:31-32------Emboldened - An undaunted, fearless spirit bent on the performance of a thing.-To fill with courage; to make bold.-An expressed demonstrative display of confidence or zeal.Engineered with bold internal wiring, Peter was a "hot wire" that bore and wore his inward zeal for Christ on his sleeve. There's just so much to love and not love about Peter ... and that's what we love about Peter.Three virtues of Peter:Earnest, Expressive, Emboldened.------Today's Read: Luke 5; 22; 24; Psalm 51 Peter's a cup of strong bold coffee with extra caffeine.Peter's a "fire in the wire," engaged and on fire, kind of person. "E's" come to mind in the rehearsal of his personality:Emphatic, Engaged, Earnest, Enthusiastic, Energetic, Employed, Expressive, Excessive, Exciteable, Endearing, Entertaining.Peter's just so ... "Peter."-One moment he's confidently walking on the water, the next moment he's doubtful and sinking.-One moment he's declaring the reality that "Christ is the Son of God" which affords him notable commendation from Christ, and the next moment he's rebuked by Him with the blistering words, "Get behind me, Satan."-One moment he's confidently expressing loyalty to Christ; the next moment he's denying Him.Peter is a pent-up empassioned flame with unlimited potential when filled and emboldened by the presence of Christ ... yet so openly suggestive of concern when left to himself.A walking paradox and a illustrative contradiction at times, Peter undeniably, unequivocally, suggestively evokes, provokes, and demonstrates authenticity to the changing character of man and the unchanging, unflinching, immoveable character of Christ.Peter is a living, breathing "figurehead" of the church preordained by the masterful hand of God and uniquely "fit" in personality and passion for the role he would fill as Christ's instrument and ambassador of truth and grace to the church.Surely Christ could have picked a more balanced individual ...But He didn't.He handpacked and lovingly chose "His" Peter.Had Peter's failures, flaws, and foibles been his primary focus, he would have "gone under" and his name would have been deleted from the Scripture ... but he didn't.Doggedly,Determinedly,Decidedly,And unreservedly,Love for Christ propelled Peter unmistakably and unforgettably forward.Peter let God be God and he made Christ his focus repeatedly; Thus he speaks to the mission of redemption much more forcibly. It's really quite a wonder but then ...So is everything God does.Christ emboldens those who behold Him ...Look to Him.-----"When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, 'Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken."Luke 5:8
