When I was a little girl a certain song entered into my life never to be forgotten.
It went something like this:
I am a promise,
I am a possibility,
I am a promise,
With a capital P,
I am a great big bundle of ...
I am learning to make the right choices,
And I'm listening to God and His voice,
I've a promise in me,
I'll become what God has promised to me.
Please don't pick apart the words or the rhythm ...
It's beautiful the way my child mind retained it and I'll keep it as is for the rest of my life.
The word "Potentiality" is a rare and seldom used word.
Even as a child my mind loved it.
I would roll it over and over on my tongue savoring the strength of its "bigness" without understanding its meaning.
It was a beautiful empowering word to a little word-loving girl.
The line above, highlighted in black, was a line I sang with firm resolution and gusto and,
like an early prophecy mounted and capped on my young life, it suggested something meaningful and important to me.
It suggested to me that ...
God would fulfill and keep His promises to me and through me.
It suggested to me that "I" was a bundle of potentiality in the hands of God.
God continues to clarify this line in my life and I praise Him and love Him the deeper yet.
Potentiality - possessing an ability for development, achievement, or success that has not yet been used.
Potentiality is an untapped "reserve" ability prepared to be put into play at just the right time and in just the right way, useful for a specific term of employment.
Of God's doing and because of God's power, we are each bundles of "potentiality."
As our lives yield to the hand that formed us and we press into the One who created us, clarification is given us as to the "bigness" of His desires for us and how He desires to be glorified through us.
Another "pen" has contributed wonderfully to the idea of potentiality:
"No one is greater than their prayer life. Our potential is directly proportional to our prayer life. It is the single greatest indicator of our success in any endeavor."
-Mark Batterson
Mmmm ...
God is just so very kind and good to His fallible, faulty creatures;
Who chooses to create potential where none otherwise exists.
We can entrust our souls to Him,
Commune continually with Him,
And live power-filled, purpose-filled lives because of Him.
In His hands we are "Bundles of Potentiality."
We bear the marks of "His" holiness,
And He bears the marks of true righteousness.
To Him belongs glory and power.
In Him lies all potentiality.
"Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being imperfect, and in Thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are Thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand; when I awake I am still with Thee."
Psalm 139:16-18
And a truth to reflect on spoken to a tender budding prophet:
"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."
Jeremiah 1:5
