REMEMBER THE DUCK

REMEMBER THE DUCK

A little boy was visiting his grandparents on their farm and was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced for a long while but couldn’t hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As he was walking back he saw Grandma’s pet duck.
Impulsively, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head, and killed it. He was shocked, grieved … and scared.
In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to see his sister watching. Sally had witnessed the whole thing but she said nothing.
After lunch the next day Grandma said, “Sally, let’s wash the dishes.”
But Sally said, “Grandma, Johnny kindly told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.”
Then she whispered to him,
“Remember the duck?”
 So Johnny did the dishes.
Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and Grandma said, “I’m sorry but I need Sally to help make supper.”
“Well that’s alright, Grandma, because Johnny told me he wanted to help you,” spoke smug little Sally. Then she whispered to him,
 “Remember the duck?”
So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed behind to help.
After several long days of doing both his chores and Sally’s … Johnny had finally had enough and he couldn’t stand it any longer. He came to Grandma in tears and confessed to his killing of the duck. Grandma knelt down and held Johnny tight a long while and whispered,
“Sweetheart, I know, I saw the whole thing happen from the window. I was just wondering how long you’d let Sally make a slave of you. You’re forgiven and I love you.”
----
Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done, that the devil keeps throwing up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, anger, bad habits, etc.) whatever it is … You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing.
He has seen your whole life … and He wants you to know that He loves you and you’re forgiven.
Don’t let the devil make a slave of you;
Don’t let him use the duck.
Come clean, confess, and experience the compassion God longs to give you.

“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous, and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.”
