Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a coat of many colors. And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.”
Genesis 37:3-4
Joseph was given the favor of an earthly father and the favor of God … but that favor would also subject him to a demonstrative jealousy from his brothers that would bring him great pain.
The brightly colored robe that adorned him and set him apart would be taken from him and torn apart.
His own brothers would turn on him and try to work an unspeakable evil against him.
Joseph would grow familiar with time in a pit and time in a prison and yet in all of this … none would be able to thwart or remove the hand of God from Joseph’s life.
In the end Joseph would be preserved for life in a palace, and from “pauper to prince,” he would see God’s loving hand at work in a providential and supernatural way.
God’s faithful hand would remain on Joseph’s life and weave the “seemingly” evil and cataclysmic events imposed upon him into a divine tapestry of sovereign protection and preservation of not just Joseph’s life … but an entire people group (the nation of Israel).
Those that despised Joseph would, in the end, bow down before him and deliverance would be procured through the “one” that so much evil had been devised against.
Praise be to God for His unspeakable and unfathomable ways;
Truly they are beyond searching out!
The same God that worked in Joseph’s life is at work in your life and He remains sovereignly in control of all events … regardless of how “out of control” things appear.
Where another has violated you; God has the power to vindicate you.
Where another has used you; God has the power to make use of you.
Where another has hurt you; God has the power to heal you.
There is nothing that a man can subject you to; that is not first subject to God.
The one who schemes and does evil may prosper temporarily but will not ultimately prevail; and the one who is obedient, and perhaps even suffers temporary mistreatment will most certainly advance and be procured a special grace, position, and palace of God's own making.
This is the promise of God who remains the Overseer of each man’s soul and the Orchestrator who is sovereignly in control.
There's something beautiful around the bend for you, brave heart.
The pit and the prison will pave a way to the palace and God will, indeed, preserve and position you for good as He has promised.
Rest in it and believe it ... for it is true.
Before your problem arrived; your deliverance was determined.
God will show Himself faithful …
and that will be the end of it.
