Enveloped in heavy pine and forest undertone,
A canopy of deep wood meets me.
For just a little while it is dark, and then certain change,
And a whisper of light.
The trees pull back, brightness of blue appears, and for a moment a brilliant sun falls sure upon me.
Creviced and filtered between two splendorous rock formations, a shaft of light fixes itself narrowly upon me, entirely encompassing me.
I feel the envelopment and embrace of God;
His presence here with me.
I've no wish to run into the darkness but here remain.
This sense of exposure, vulnerability, and nakedness so keenly felt,
Purely and transparently revealing me.
A revelation of God and my soul,
 Simultaneously glimpsed and understood,
And the two becoming one and both embraced in me.
The echo of a seasoned voice speaks forcibly:
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
I think of Paul's dramatic encounter with the Christ, on the road to Damascus, and the mysterious transfer of darkness to light, and the murderous soul changed by the transcending whisper of light  ... in just one moment.
"And as he journeyed he came near Damascus; and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven."
Acts 9:3
I think of the Gentile nations and the hope of Israel in the Christ ... and the whisper of light on the horizon.
"The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up."
Matthew 4:16
All of these thoughts eclipsing me.
I find myself transfixed and engaged in the glory of God,
Enveloped in a living translation of light.
And the warmth of  sun burns brightly and forcibly into me.
The words are true,
The message is right.
It is the whisper of light in our darkness which changes everything,
And not until we are eclipsed by this "Light" do we see anything.
But suddenly, beautifully, and mysterously ...
This whisper of light shines into you and me.
A hiker's path,
This solemn place,
This whisper of Light.
"This then is the message which we have heard of Him and declare unto you,
'God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.'"
1 John 1:5
