There are some lines that never grow old,
Words that carry merit in our lives wherever we go;
Sacred thoughts that hold a mysterious appeal over our lives ...
And speak to past, present, and future.
Such lines were being rehearsed in me upon the early waking hours of this day,
and then quite abruptly,
the metric stayed the same and new words wafted sweetly through me.
My own rendition came quite by surprise ...
God speaking to me, I perceived,
Unforced and Unsought,
And thus the more meaningful and appreciated.
The unidentified author of the first will always be dear and speak sweetly;
His words read like a brief poetic biography.
The identified author of the new version wishes to simply extol her Liberator, exercise her wings, and sing a new song ... for Him.

He placed me in a little cage,
Away from gardens fair;
But I must sing the sweetest song,
Because He placed me there.

Not beat my wings against the cage,
If it's my Maker's will,
But raise my voice to heaven's gates,
And sing the louder still.

He opened up my little cage,
And caught me unaware;
And now I wish to sing the praise,
Of He who brought me there.

With open wing and joy I sing,
And none more dear to me;
Than He took the bars away,
And set my spirit free.

"Now the Lord is the Spirit,
and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."
2 Corinthians 3:17
